We all have our skeletons.
I started writing about 4 years ago just to express what I was feeling at different points in my life but I was never really sure of what kind of writer I’d be so I just kinda started out writing about love because that was the easiest thing for me to write about, even though I’ve never been in love I grew up watching a lot of romance movies so it just made sense to me, but after a while I realised if I was actually gonna do this seriously I wanted to dig deeper into myself and write about stuff that I was actually experiencing so after months of crying into my notes app on my iphone here I am.
I created this blog and movement called Transparency to spread awareness on mental illness especially amongst the black community for anyone who feels like they experience these feelings that they can’t talk to anyone about, people who are negatively stigmatised by what they’re experiencing, people who may unknowingly suffer from a mental illness and people who just wanna see what goes on in the life of someone who suffers from a mental illness. So, if you’re one of those people or if you just wanna understand, this is for you boo. I’m not gonna lie though I’m doing this as much for myself as I’m doing it for you guys, I feel like being open about the things I’m going through is gonna help lift a massive weight off my shoulders.
I guess I kinda understand why people connect mental illness to hearing voices, seeing dead people and just being plain erratic because that’s how its portrayed in the media and I understand that hearing you have any kind of issue is a hard pill to swallow which is why I’ve decided to take the artistic approach and put it in poetry to soften the blow but really what I’m trying to get out of this is for those who might relate to these poems to seek help whether that be through a support group, counsellor, telephone line whatever. Your best friend could have a mental illness and neither of you would know, it’s not a bad thing and it’s nothing to be scared of alot of people have issues on different scales but it can get worse if left untreated like every other illness out there. So, for anyone suffering from anything mentally you’re not weak, you’re not just a fetish, what you’re experiencing is completely valid and you’re not alone. You’re not messed up or even if you are fuck it own that shit (pardon my language) most humans these days are messed up anyways so really and truly you’re a normal person, like me and you’re definitely not any less than any “healthy minded” person (but is anyone really healthy minded these days? thats the real question). Everyone in this world is just trying to cope with the life they were given the only way they know how, we’re just the ones who do that in slightly unhealthy ways, the only ways we know how but, you’re not alone in this and you don’t have to go through this alone, there’s so many different avenues you can use for help (some of these avenues are listed at the end of this message) I can try to help as much as I can aswell but I’m not a professional and I have to get through whatever this is first before I can really help in a drastic way (i think) but you guys can still contact me anonymously using the contact page in the menu or by messaging me on my social media which is listed at the end of this hella long message if you ever need to talk or just get something off your chest.
